Manimekalai is the second Tamil epic, next to Silappatikaram. It is a sequel to Silappatikaram, like Odyssey is a sequel to Iliad. Manimekalai is also smaller than Silappatikaram in size though it contains 30 chapters like Silappatikaram. It is however not arranged into three books unlike Silappatikaram. It is around 75% to 77%, the size of Silappatikaram. This epic describes the life of Manimekalai, the daughter of Matavi and Kovalan, mentioned extensively in Silappatikaram.
